Õpiobjekt “Eesti rahvalaul ja rahvapillid” tutvustas eesti rahvalaulutraditsiooni, laulupidusid ja rahvapille, mida mängitakse tänapäevalgi erinevatel pidulikel puhkudel.

This minicourse “Estonian Folk Song and Folk Instruments” introduced students to our tradition of folk songs, song festivals and folk instruments that continue to be played nowadays.

Folk songs were an inseparable part of everyday life. They were handed down or actually sung to children. Nowadays we can learn them in the schools of folk music or listen to entertainment provided by folk music interpreters.
Folk instruments also had both a practical purpose for farmers and an aesthetical purpose to accompany dancing or songs.   Making them took a lot of energy and skill but was considered worth it. Today we may buy instruments or craft them ourselves but playing is more for entertainment or as a hobby.
